GLOSSARY TERM

MGA (Malta Gaming Authority)

The MGA licenses B2C operators and B2B suppliers from Malta, providing an EU-based regulatory home widely accepted across markets without local licensing regimes.

Position in the hierarchy

Stricter than offshore regimes, lighter than national regulators like the UKGC: real fit-and-proper checks, player-funds protection tiers, compliance audits and a functioning player-complaints process. As European markets nationalize (Germany, Netherlands, Sweden…), the MGA license’s role shifts — from the pan-EU key it once was toward the respected base license operators pair with local ones market by market.
