GLOSSARY TERM

Cookie Stuffing

Cookie stuffing forces a tracking cookie or identifier onto visitors via hidden iframes, popunders, or injected scripts — no genuine click, no referral, just a planted claim on any future conversion.

Consequences are not theoretical

It’s wire fraud in some jurisdictions; affiliates have gone to prison for stuffing at scale (the eBay cases are the canon). Program-side detection mirrors click spamming: impossibly high conversion rates from low-engagement traffic and referrer patterns that don’t match claimed placements. Terminate on proof, claw back, and document — other programs will ask.
