GLOSSARY TERM

Sandbox Environment

Sandboxes simulate production APIs for integration work: test conversions, mock payments, staged postbacks — without real money or live data.

Fidelity checklist

Evaluate sandbox realism during procurement: full API parity (endpoints missing in sandbox get integrated blind), realistic data volumes and edge cases (declines, partial refunds, timezone boundaries), stable test credentials, and postback/webhook testability end-to-end. Integration teams should script sandbox regression suites they rerun on vendor version bumps — the vendor’s changelog is aspirational; the test suite is factual. Sandbox quality predicts vendor engineering culture with uncomfortable accuracy.
