Reach Your Goals More Effectively by Taking out A Step or Two

Most of us tend to do the same things when we are trying to reach our goals. We start by making a plan that covers the ideas and steps on how to reach our goal and then we begin moving along the steps of the plan. Most likely your ultimate plan looks something like this:

Step 1 – Do the work that is absolutely needed to reach the goal.

Step 2 – Do some unnecessary work that has nothing to do with goal but takes up time and seems important.

Step 3 – Do some more work that is absolutely needed to reach the goal.

Step 4 – Accomplish goal.

Doesn’t sound familiar? You may think that kind of plan, with the unnecessary steps, is not the way you go about reaching your goals, but in reality it most likely is.

This type of plan is used every single day for business, career, well being, and many other areas of our lives that require particular goals to be reached.

For example, do you want to lose weight or have you been trying to lose weight?

A plan for losing weight should look something like this.

Step 1 – Eat healthy food and exercise.

Step 2 – Reach goal weight.

We all know that’s true. We all know that essentially all we have to do is eat good food and exercise and the weight will come off. But most of us do something like this.

Step 1 – Eat healthy food and exercise.

Step 2 – Reward ourselves for doing so well by eating something unhealthy.

Step 3 – Stop exercising as hard and replace it instead with sitting around.

Step 4 – Gain a few pounds back.

Step 5 – Eat healthy food and exercise.

Step 6 – Give up and have that huge plate of nachos, huge plate of mozzarella sticks, and 5 glasses of pop.

Step 7 – Eat healthy food and exercise.

Step 8 – Reach goal. (This of course may be years after starting step 1 and having many other steps repeated over and over and over again)

Do you see the extra and unnecessary steps in order to reach our goal of losing weight? Do you see how much easier it would be to just eliminate all the steps in between 1 and 8 and just do it? Of course you do! And that’s all we have to do to accomplish our goals. This applies to all areas of our lives, not just weight loss.

It is that easy. The saying ‘Well it’s not that easy!’ is just an excuse you use when you don’t get down to business and just do it. It really is that easy.

So go ahead and sit down and figure out what unnecessary steps are holding you back from reaching your goals and eliminate them. Stop doing them altogether and instead just focus on step 1. Do the work that needs to be done and get to your goals quicker.
